This Summer's Exhibitions この夏の展覧会

I've had two group exhibitions for a few months. One of them was the Technical Instructors Exhibition in August at Art Students League of New York. It's a top picture. I exhibited one sculpture and two oil paintings.  And one more exhibition is still going on 41st Anniversary Exhibition - Japanese Artists Association of New York at Tenri Gallery in New York City. There is my print, title is Thread on Wood, etching in the Exhibition.  It's until September 6 (Monday) . 久し振りにブログを書いてます。数年前はあんなにまめに書いていたのに、最近はサボってばかりです。

8月はテクニカル・インストラクターズ展がアートスチューデンツリーグでありました。その時は、彫刻1点、油彩が2点出展しまた。上の写真がそうです。
それから今月は、第41回JAANY-ｼﾞｬﾊﾟﾆｰｽﾞ･ｱｰﾃｨｽﾂ･ｱｿｼｴｰｼｮﾝ展が天理ギャラリーで現在開催中です。9月16日月曜日までです。お時間あればお立ち寄り下さい。

SAGA Members Show is over soon!

79th SAGA Members Exhibition has gone on until this coming Friday  June 29.   Do not miss it! There is a lot of the great artists' prints include Will Barnet, Robert Kipniss and more in the exhibition. I'm very proud of participate it.

第79回SAGA会員展覧会が今週の金曜日6月29日で終わります。開催日残りわずかになってしまいました。このSAGA（Society of American Graphic Artists）は歴史ある版画家が参加している素晴らしい会です。ウィリアム・バーネットやロバート・キップネスなど有名な版画家達と一緒に展覧会に参加出来て私は光栄に思っています。お時間有ればぜひご覧になって下さい。お見過ごし無く！

The Reception at Hammond Museum

I couldn't have any time to post recently.... I had an opening reception at the Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden on September 25th. It was a very beautiful day to take a trip to upstate New York. And the museum's garden is great to walk around in the day. I met many wonderful people and the artists at the reception. I couldn't take a lot of pictures but I'm uploading some of the ones I took.
Oh! It was a very nice surprise that a woman from Manhattan who is an art collector and who owns one of my prints, came to the opening. I was so pleased to have met her there. Thanks to all who attended the reception.
　　最近あっという間に時間が経って、もう10月半ば過ぎてしまって…　先月ハモンド ミュージアムでのグループ展のレセプションの写真をアップしてます。今回のグループ展では、私の10点のエッチングとリトグラフを展示してます。
ハモンドミュージアムは、ニューヨークから電車と車に乗って約２時間、都会を離れて季節を感じられる場所で、レセプションの日はゴージャスと言って良い程の美しい秋空で最高の日でした。レセプションに来てくれた沢山の人、グループ展に参加の他の作家達との良い出会いがありました。
そして、うれしいサプライズは、私の作品ももっているアート収集家の女性が、車で3時間掛けて駆けつけてくれたことで。全くその方が来てくれると思わなかったので、とっても嬉しかったです。
レセプションに出席してくれた皆さんに有り難く感謝してます。
このグループ展は、11月20日土曜日まで開催してますので、秋の紅葉を眺めながら観にいって下さい。

Hello~! I'm having a group exhibition from September 22 (Wed) to November 20 (Sat) at Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden. It's the 2010 Tri State Competition Winners Exhibition. When I delivered my prints at the Museum, the Marple trees are so beautiful in the Japanese Stroll Garden. It just started turning leaves red at Upstate New York now.
現在ハモンド ミュージアムでグループ展を9月22日より開催しています。3つの州のアーテイストのコンペテションが昨年あリその優勝者の展示会です。

Time flies so fast.時間が経つのは早い

I haven't posted any blog since Feburary. Looking at my past posts. I haven't uploaded when I was printing an edition of "Thread on Table" yet as I hadn't decided which papers and inks I would use for it. The example is a proof printed on Italian blue paper with earth brown ink and blue paper with green ink. Also Chine-collé with green kitakata paper and also natural with black ink. I tried using variations of colors from bright orange to dark red for the ink for the red thread in the proofs. I decided to make editions of two different techniques with the same image. They are chine-colle with green kitakata paper on warm white paper and the Italian blue paper with dark olive green ink.
皆さん、お久し振りです。お元気でしたか？
時間が経つのは本当に早いもので、2月から何もブログにアップしてなかったんですね。過去ポストしたのをみていて、”テーブルの上の糸”のエディションをするまでの事をアップを忘れてました。
本刷りまでには、色んな違った色の紙に刷ってそして、インクの色も変えて私が考えるイメージにより近づける為に沢山の試し刷りをしてみました。一枚の作品が出来るまで、エッチング板の製作にも時間が掛かりますが、本刷りをするまでも、紙の色（紙の性質も含めて）インクなどを選んだりと時間が掛かってます。写真は2種類の紙に4種類の違うインクと違うテクニックでプリントしたものです。最終的にイタリー製のブルーの紙にダークオリーブグリーンのインクとウォームホワイトの紙で喜多方を使ったシンコレ(写真の右上)の2種類エディションを作ることを決めました。

There is an article about my solo exhibition in Japanese newspaper, The Shukan New York SeiKatsu No.275 (10/17/09 Issue). I tried to translate it from Japanese to English was a lot of job for me indeed. And a friend of mine corrected it. I'm happy to have it because it's a good one and is not only a detail of the exhibition but also included my statement in it as well. この前のブログでもう読んだ方も多いと思いますが、週刊ニューヨーク生活に掲載された記事を英語に翻訳しました。私にとってこの忙しい時期に、なんで？こんな大変な事をしているのかと、自分に問いかけながら...。
良い記事なのと私の作品のステートメントを確実に書き込まれているので、日本人だけじゃなく、読んでもらいたんです。それで頑張ってやってみました。

The invitation of a solo show. 個展のご案内

Won an award! 賞を受賞。

I attended the reception of 67th Annul Audubon Artists Exhibition and won "Marquis Who’s Who In American Art References Award"on Sunday, September 27. It's a bad spot to hang on my print "The Red Thread" I pointed out in a picture but I can't complain because of received the award. The Exhibition will be until Friday, October 2nd.
I didn't mention that I'm also honored to won “Nessa Cohen Grant" from The Art Students League of New York in May, 2009. At that time, I submitted a few other prints and included “The Red Thread” as well.
9月27日に第67回オデュボンアーティスツの定期展のレセプションで第三位のマーキュイス（アメリカの出版社による著名人の略歴を掲載した年鑑版紳士録）フーズフー・イン・アメリカン･アート賞を受賞しました。私の作品”赤い糸”は可なり上の方で観ずらい場所に展示されてましたが、賞を頂いて文句は言えません。
忙しかったのでブログに何も書いてませんでしたが、実は、今年5月にネセ・コーヘン･グラント（奨学金）を受賞しました。今回受賞した”赤い糸"と他の版画数点の提出にて頂きました。こんなに続けで頂いて、本当に有難く感謝してます。これから今以上にもっといい作品の製作をしないと...少々プレッシャーです。

How is your summer? 私の夏は？

I've been too busy to post anything. I can't believe August is almost over, I didn't have much of a summer...the picture is a new lithograph which I drew. I printed it out last month but it didn't come out very good. It needs more corrections. I've been working on a portrait and another etching now. I'll show you pictures soon.
異常に忙しく夏は？ただ暑いって感じで楽しい夏を残念ながら過ごしてません。もう10日で8月も終ろうとしてます。信じられない！写真はリトグラフのプリントする前のドローイングの状態です。先月刷ってみたら全然良くないです。修正をしながら何度か刷り直すしかないようです。現在、肖像画と新作のエッチングを製作中です。近日中に写真をアップします。

Received a Prize. ﾚｻﾞｰｽﾄｯｷﾝｸﾞ･ﾘｼﾞｪﾝ賞を受賞

I received "Leatherstocking Region FCU Prize" from 18th Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition "Essential Art", Cooperstown Art Association. If you go to near Cooperstown, New York, please stop by and see my new etching and aquatint " A Red thread". Information I'd had the idea one year ago. It took to create this print for over four months.
ニューヨークのアップスティートのクーパーズタウンでエッセンシャル･アート展, 第18回定期公募展に初めて応募、入賞そして、レザーストッキング･リジェンFUC賞を受賞。レザーストッキング？聞きなれない言葉で、古語みたいで、何やら高級なめし皮ブーツのことらしです。詳しく意味を知りたいと思ってます。作品のアイデアは1年前からで、製作に約4ヶ月以上掛かった作品なので、受賞は嬉しいです。

I had an opening reception for my solo exhibition on March 31st. It was nice one. I appreciated many people came. Thank you so much!
There are 11 prints and 9 paintings in my show.

私の個展（版画11点とペインティング9点を展示。）のオープニング･レセプションを3月31日に行いました。沢山の人に来て頂いてとっても感謝してます。

In The Library. 図書館に・・・

I delivered and hung my artworks at the Broolklyn Public Library on Saturday. In totally there are twenty prints and paintings. Also I displayed the working process of "The Red Thread" in a showcase there. I think it looks very nice. The picture is a sign of my exhibition in the Library.
土曜日に搬入が終わりました。版画とペインティング合計20点を壁に掛けて来ました。そして、図書館の中にあるショーケースにエッチングの"赤い糸"の製作工程を展示しました。ライブラリーの館長が今まで一番素晴らしい展示会になると大喜びでした。
写真は、図書館に入ってすぐに私の展示会のサインとショーケースです。

My solo exhibition, 個展のお知らせ

I'm going have a solo exhibition at Brooklyn Public Library, Gravesend Branch. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday March 31 from 6pm to 8 pm. The picture on the invitation card is my first lithograph which is titled "Central Park". I developed the print from a photograph I took about 15 years ago.
3月31日よりブルックリン市立図書館のグラビセント･ブランチにて私の個展が開催されます。オープニングレセプションは3月31日6時より。版画(エッチング、リトグラフ)抽象画を展示する予定です。
私が版画を始めて最初の作品"セントラル･パークが、招待状に使われました。この作品は、約15年前にニューヨークに来た当初、英語学校に通っていた時撮った写真を元に製作しました。
その時はアーティストになるなんて全く考えていなかったし、その写真を使ってリトグラフの製作をするなんて、思わなかったし、アートのとは関係ない世界にいました。不思議ですよね。今こうやって、アメリカで初個展をNYで開催する事になって...。個展は、約4年前に東京の銀座煉瓦画廊で、企画してもらって以来となります。

Almost finish drawing. 時間が掛かってます。

It's taking time to draw very carefully on the plate because one can't use an eraser once the drawing has been done on the plate with litho pencil. I can't wait to see the final print-out.
作品はすごく時間が掛かってドローイングしてます。リトグラフは間違えたからといって消しゴムを使って消したり出来ないのです。
特にアルミ板を使ってますから一度書いたら訂正困難なのです。だから慎重に、気をつけて描いてます。もうすぐ描き終わる予定です。刷るまで何があるかわかりませんが(ちょっと怖い～)、刷るのが待ちどうしいです。

Working on a new project. 新作

I started working on a new lithograph. A photo is a drawing of Central Park on an aluminum lithograph plate.
I had an accident so that I couldn't do anything for two weeks. After taking it easy a little while, I had to do a lot of things. I didn't have time to post anythig on my blog.
先月はスタジオでパイプにつまずいて身体を強く打って2週間程何も出来なかったんです。少し良くなったら溜まっていた沢山の事を一つずつ終わらせるのに忙しく、やっと新しいリトグラフの作品（セントラルパークの風景）の製作を始めました。

Shadow of the Thread、糸の影

I etched the shadow of the thread by soft ground. While etching the plate, some parts on the top left and around the scissors which should be white, were also accidentally etched. And I was shocked to find it when I printed it out. I fixed them by varnishing the plate today. My hands are still in pain. In the picture of the two images I tried the different colors.
ソフトグランドで糸の影を板に腐食させました。仮刷りしてみたら腐食して欲しく無いとこ、例えばハサミの周りの光が当たっている所まで黒くなっていて、ショック！その修正、銅版の凹凸をつぶしていく作業を今日一日やって、手が痛いです。写真は赤い糸の色と全体の色を違うインクを使って刷ってみました。クリックすると拡大写真が見れます。

This is a third stage of the picture. I made another plate for a thread to add on the print. So I have two plates for one image. I was working on the scissors' shadow, it's very subtle, perhaps too subtle to make out. And I'm going to change the color of the thread which must be a deeper red.
I hope I'll finish working on the print before the end of the month.
先週から引き続きこの作品の製作をしてます。今週、もう一枚赤い糸用の板を製作し,2枚の板を重ね刷りしてみました。そして、テーブルの上のハサミの影を少しソフトにしたんですが、ほとんど違いが分からないかもしれませんね。赤い糸はもっと深みがある赤にしようと思ってます。今月中に出来上がるといいなと思っているんですが、版画は絵画や彫刻と違って思うようにならないので、どうでしょう。

This picture is a second stage of a next print. I like the bobbin and its shadow but the entire image needs more aquatint. I think I'll work on it more.

今製作している作品で、エッチングの後、アクアチントで、仮刷りしてみました。もう一度アクアチントするか、エッチングするかして、作り上げていこうと思ってます。

Scissors & Bobbin

I've been working on this etching since July 1st. Finally I'm printing out a limited edition now. I printed about 18 prints so far but I'm not satisfied with some of them. Printing by hand is not like a copy machine. It's difficult to make the same print every time. So I'll make more prints.
7月から始めたこのエッチングやっと本刷りに入りました。今のとこ18枚程刷ったんですが、満足出来るプリントは少なくて、コピー機の様に同じに毎回刷れなくて、苦難してます。15枚か20枚のエディションを作りたいと考えているので、もう少し頑張らないと。

The Reception of the Black & White Exhibition

I had a reception of the Annual Black and White Exhibition at Salmgundi Club last Thursday. I had two lithographs that were accepted.
I was glad to hear that people love "Kissing The Universe" in the gallery. Because it's unusual and fun to see what they said.
I've been busy dropping off and picking up my artworks at the galleries recently. That's why I couldn't post anything.
