Technial Instructors Exhibition - テクニカル インストラクターズ展

Hi all! Time flies so fast. I haven't uploaded any new blog entries in nine months.
I'm currently exhibiting a sculpture and three still life oil paintings for the Technical Instructors Exhibition at the Art Students League of New York which will continue until Saturday, August 16th. If you have time, please stop by the gallery to see my artwork.

皆さんお元気ですか?　ご無沙汰です。最後にブログを更新したのは昨年の11月末、時間はあっという間に過ぎて、もう8月ですね。 昨年末から5月のメモリアル ディまで慌しく忙しく、全くブログを書く時間がありませんでした。
今現在テクニカル インストラクターズ展をアート スチュウデンツ リーグ2階ギャラリーにて開催中。私の彫刻1点それから油絵の静物画3点を出展しています。8月16日土曜日までです。お近くにお寄りの際お立ち寄り下さい。
写真をアップしたかったんですが、何度やっても出来なくて、他の日にあらためてアップしますね。

"Nuance in Nuance" Four Person Exhibition - ４人展

I'm having a Four Person Exhibition at Gallery Onetwentyeight. Two of the artists arrived in NY from Japan for the exhibition on Thanksgiving Day; We had our artwork hanging on the walls at the gallery the same day. It's interesting that our exhibition started on Black Friday. I've created some new paintings and a drawing for the exhibition.

只今、４人展をギャラリーワンツェンティエイトにて開催しています。

木曜日のサンクスギビング・ディに日本からアーティスト２名がNYへ到着し、その日に私を含めてニューヨークから２名、そして、キューレイターとで、私達の作品の展示をしました。

そして、サンクスギビング・ディの翌日、11月29日金曜日から展覧会がスタートです。

丁度ブラック・フライディといって、これからのホリディ シーズン、クリスマスに向けての全米挙げての大セールの幕開けです。ちょっと狂っているって思ってしまいますが、このブラック・フライディは、デパートなどのお店が、朝4時や5時から開店するんですよ。信じられないでしょう。いつもニュースで朝4時の開店前にすごい列が出来ていて、けが人が出る位です。

話を私の4人展に戻して、もう今日になりますが、オープニングレセプションは11月30日4時から7時までです。お気軽にお立ち寄り下さい。お待ちしております。

Statement of "Whispering Cascades" - ステートメント

Statement of "Whispering Cascades"

When creating this body of artwork, I held a Kōan(公案) in my mind.  
A Kōan is a question or statement used in Zen practice to provoke deeper understanding.   A Zen master might give his students this Kōan:  
"You know the sound of two hands clapping; tell me, what is the sound of one hand?”.

Making art is a contemplative act, in my process, I created my own Kōan.

What is it like for water to drop into a space where there is no sound?  How does it feel to be in such a place?
I tried to glimpse the space, to feel the movement of the water and the different densities of color.   As the silent drops fall, they expand, moving out from within.  The space vibrates, and the colors have a quiet energy which transports me deeper into the space.  
My artistic inner voice whispers to me, and I am seduced by the imagination.  I externalize the color, its movement, and the timeless inner place of the canvas.

Whispering Cascades - 囁きかける流水
私が抽象画の作品の創造をする時、公案の事を心に浮かべる。
公案は、禅の修行の際、深い洞察力を引き出す為の「禅問答」である。禅のマスターは、修行僧に
次の代表的な公案を与える。「両手を叩いた時の音は知っているな。では、片手ではどんな音がする？」

作品製作は瞑想的な行為で、そのプロセスに私は自作の公案を作品製作課題として私自身に与えてみる。
水が音が無いスペースに滴り落ちると、どんな感じだろう？そのスペースはどんな感じがする場所だろう？
私は、そしてそのスペースを垣間見るよう試み、そして、水の動きや色の異なる密度を感じてみる。沈黙の滴の落下が、内から外に移動し、拡がっていきます。その空間が振動し、そこにある色彩は、静かなエネルギーを持っていて、そのエネルギーが、深く奥へとその空間へ私を連れて行ってくれる。
私の芸術的な内なる声が、私に囁きかけ、そしてその想像に魅了させられます。
私は、その色彩、それらの動き、そして時を超越した内なる空間をキャンバスの上に具体化させる。

今回の抽象画の個展のステートメント、英文での製作も大変でしたが、、日本語にタイプし直すのも結構言葉を選んで大変でした。自分で作ったステートメントにも関わらず...。

Solo Exhibition "Whispering Cascades" - 個展のご案内

I'm pleased to announce that I am currently having a solo exhibition, "Whispering Cascades", at Reso Box Gallery http://resobox.com.

I'm excited to be exhibiting my abstract paintings at this time, which is the first time to be showing my abstract work in a solo exhibition.

現在Reso Boxギャラリーで、個展を9月12日より10月3日まで開催してます。今回は、すべて抽象画の作品を14点展示してます。私は版画、彫刻そして、具象画の作品の発表はしましたが、この個展で初めて今まで少しずつ描き溜めてきた抽象画の作品を公開します。

This Summer's Exhibitions この夏の展覧会

I've had two group exhibitions for a few months. One of them was the Technical Instructors Exhibition in August at Art Students League of New York. It's a top picture. I exhibited one sculpture and two oil paintings.  And one more exhibition is still going on 41st Anniversary Exhibition - Japanese Artists Association of New York at Tenri Gallery in New York City. There is my print, title is Thread on Wood, etching in the Exhibition.  It's until September 6 (Monday) . 久し振りにブログを書いてます。数年前はあんなにまめに書いていたのに、最近はサボってばかりです。

8月はテクニカル・インストラクターズ展がアートスチューデンツリーグでありました。その時は、彫刻1点、油彩が2点出展しまた。上の写真がそうです。
それから今月は、第41回JAANY-ｼﾞｬﾊﾟﾆｰｽﾞ･ｱｰﾃｨｽﾂ･ｱｿｼｴｰｼｮﾝ展が天理ギャラリーで現在開催中です。9月16日月曜日までです。お時間あればお立ち寄り下さい。

GUTAI at Guggenheim Museum - " 具体" ｸﾞｯｹﾞﾝﾝﾊｲﾑ美術館

The Exhibition of Gutai: Splendid Playground will be closed in May 8th at Guggenheim Museum. If you don't have a chance to see it yet, do not miss it!
I went to a private opening "GUTAI" in February was great. I was very impressed. It's explored new art forms combining performance, painting, and creating some objects. 
The GUTAI Art Association had had activity from 1954 to 1972, however the most of artworks look a  very fresh to me.And it's unique that the Gutai Card Box is an interactive vending machine made in 1962 that dispenses original artworks in the form of hand-

painted cards. To deposit a 10-yen coin in exchange for a premade postcard-size work by a Gutai member. Proceeds were donated to a children’s art charity at the time.

今年２月に”具体”のプライベートオープニングに友人に誘われて行って来た。

関西を中心に1954年から1972年活動していた前衛的な集団”具体” のエキシビションが、ニューヨークのグッゲンハイム美術館で現在も開催中。
とても50,60,70年代にこんな試験的で、ハチャメチャな作品、中には緻密に計算されたオブジェクトがあったり、今現在観ても私にはとても新鮮ですごく楽しめた。

一つ驚いた出来事があった。アート作品の自動販売機ー1962年当時10円をいれるとハガキサイズの作品を出てくる。そして、収入は子供のアートチャリティーに寄付されていた。

その自販機には長い列が出来ていたので、丁度日本人で作品を買った人がいたので、作品を見せてもらった。

その方、沢山のアーティストの作品が自販機の中にあるのに、偶然にも自販機からお父様の作品が出てきそうで、私が話しかけたのは、アーティストの息子さんで、その作品がスタジオに沢山あるので差し上げると言われ頂いた。なんという偶然！なんとラッキーな事で...。

もう5月8日までで終わってしまう、まだ観てない方はぜひ行かれる事をお薦めします。

第79回SAGA会員展覧会が今週の金曜日6月29日で終わります。開催日残りわずかになってしまいました。このSAGA（Society of American Graphic Artists）は歴史ある版画家が参加している素晴らしい会です。ウィリアム・バーネットやロバート・キップネスなど有名な版画家達と一緒に展覧会に参加出来て私は光栄に思っています。お時間有ればぜひご覧になって下さい。お見過ごし無く！

Waves…The Tides of Time
This multi-media gallery exhibit expresses the continuous flow of humanity’s ups and downs. The perpetual change of political trends. The tidal flow of humanity’s transformation throughout the ages. People change and progress. People change and regress. However, this endless wave has inspired revolutionary art forms for centuries. This show represents the fluidity, force, and power of art and its ageless movement through time.

ART FOR JAPAN

Since the disaster caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, I've been anxious about people who are suffering and the situation with the nuclear power plants. I know my worrying doesn't help anything, but I can't stop thinking about those affected by the disaster. I did donate a little money, and also I'll participate in this event to donate one of my pieces of artwork for the fundraiser project "ART for Japan". The event is being held at "Studio 57 Fine Arts", 211 West 57th Street (between Seventh Ave. and Broadway) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Artists are donating works for sale to raise funds at the event. All work will be sold for $200 or less. Payment by cash or check only. Please help Japan! 約100人のニューヨークのアーティストが参加するこのイベントは、寄付した作品を200ドル以下で販売し、その支援基金は100%ユニセフから被災された人々に使われます。支払いはキャシュとチェックのみ。 場所：Studio 57 Fine Arts 211 West 7th Street, New York, Ny 10019 (bet 7th Ave & Broadway) 日時：4月7日 6時から8時まで ３月11日に起きた東北関東大震災は、ニュースで知った、TVからの画像はとっても信じがたい状況にショックで胸が痛くなった。未だに沢山の人が辛い思いをしている事そして原発の被害が人へそして、食品や家畜へ...不安な気持ちで過ごしている人も多いと思うと心苦しくなります。でも私がいくら心配しても何の助けにもならないことは解っていても心配で仕方ありません。ニューヨークに住んでいる私に何が出来るか?　お金の寄付や私の作品を寄付して基金を募るしか来ません。 ぜひいらして下さい。がんばれ日本！

The Reception at Hammond Museum

I couldn't have any time to post recently.... I had an opening reception at the Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden on September 25th. It was a very beautiful day to take a trip to upstate New York. And the museum's garden is great to walk around in the day. I met many wonderful people and the artists at the reception. I couldn't take a lot of pictures but I'm uploading some of the ones I took.
Oh! It was a very nice surprise that a woman from Manhattan who is an art collector and who owns one of my prints, came to the opening. I was so pleased to have met her there. Thanks to all who attended the reception.
　　最近あっという間に時間が経って、もう10月半ば過ぎてしまって…　先月ハモンド ミュージアムでのグループ展のレセプションの写真をアップしてます。今回のグループ展では、私の10点のエッチングとリトグラフを展示してます。
ハモンドミュージアムは、ニューヨークから電車と車に乗って約２時間、都会を離れて季節を感じられる場所で、レセプションの日はゴージャスと言って良い程の美しい秋空で最高の日でした。レセプションに来てくれた沢山の人、グループ展に参加の他の作家達との良い出会いがありました。
そして、うれしいサプライズは、私の作品ももっているアート収集家の女性が、車で3時間掛けて駆けつけてくれたことで。全くその方が来てくれると思わなかったので、とっても嬉しかったです。
レセプションに出席してくれた皆さんに有り難く感謝してます。
このグループ展は、11月20日土曜日まで開催してますので、秋の紅葉を眺めながら観にいって下さい。
