"Nuance in Nuance" Four Person Exhibition - ４人展

I'm having a Four Person Exhibition at Gallery Onetwentyeight. Two of the artists arrived in NY from Japan for the exhibition on Thanksgiving Day; We had our artwork hanging on the walls at the gallery the same day. It's interesting that our exhibition started on Black Friday. I've created some new paintings and a drawing for the exhibition.

只今、４人展をギャラリーワンツェンティエイトにて開催しています。

木曜日のサンクスギビング・ディに日本からアーティスト２名がNYへ到着し、その日に私を含めてニューヨークから２名、そして、キューレイターとで、私達の作品の展示をしました。

そして、サンクスギビング・ディの翌日、11月29日金曜日から展覧会がスタートです。

丁度ブラック・フライディといって、これからのホリディ シーズン、クリスマスに向けての全米挙げての大セールの幕開けです。ちょっと狂っているって思ってしまいますが、このブラック・フライディは、デパートなどのお店が、朝4時や5時から開店するんですよ。信じられないでしょう。いつもニュースで朝4時の開店前にすごい列が出来ていて、けが人が出る位です。

話を私の4人展に戻して、もう今日になりますが、オープニングレセプションは11月30日4時から7時までです。お気軽にお立ち寄り下さい。お待ちしております。

Statement of "Whispering Cascades"

When creating this body of artwork, I held a Kōan(公案) in my mind.  
A Kōan is a question or statement used in Zen practice to provoke deeper understanding.   A Zen master might give his students this Kōan:  
"You know the sound of two hands clapping; tell me, what is the sound of one hand?”.

Making art is a contemplative act, in my process, I created my own Kōan.

What is it like for water to drop into a space where there is no sound?  How does it feel to be in such a place?
I tried to glimpse the space, to feel the movement of the water and the different densities of color.   As the silent drops fall, they expand, moving out from within.  The space vibrates, and the colors have a quiet energy which transports me deeper into the space.  
My artistic inner voice whispers to me, and I am seduced by the imagination.  I externalize the color, its movement, and the timeless inner place of the canvas.

Whispering Cascades - 囁きかける流水
私が抽象画の作品の創造をする時、公案の事を心に浮かべる。
公案は、禅の修行の際、深い洞察力を引き出す為の「禅問答」である。禅のマスターは、修行僧に
次の代表的な公案を与える。「両手を叩いた時の音は知っているな。では、片手ではどんな音がする？」

作品製作は瞑想的な行為で、そのプロセスに私は自作の公案を作品製作課題として私自身に与えてみる。
水が音が無いスペースに滴り落ちると、どんな感じだろう？そのスペースはどんな感じがする場所だろう？
私は、そしてそのスペースを垣間見るよう試み、そして、水の動きや色の異なる密度を感じてみる。沈黙の滴の落下が、内から外に移動し、拡がっていきます。その空間が振動し、そこにある色彩は、静かなエネルギーを持っていて、そのエネルギーが、深く奥へとその空間へ私を連れて行ってくれる。
私の芸術的な内なる声が、私に囁きかけ、そしてその想像に魅了させられます。
私は、その色彩、それらの動き、そして時を超越した内なる空間をキャンバスの上に具体化させる。

今回の抽象画の個展のステートメント、英文での製作も大変でしたが、、日本語にタイプし直すのも結構言葉を選んで大変でした。自分で作ったステートメントにも関わらず...。

Solo Exhibition "Whispering Cascades" - 個展のご案内

I'm pleased to announce that I am currently having a solo exhibition, "Whispering Cascades", at Reso Box Gallery http://resobox.com.

I'm excited to be exhibiting my abstract paintings at this time, which is the first time to be showing my abstract work in a solo exhibition.

現在Reso Boxギャラリーで、個展を9月12日より10月3日まで開催してます。今回は、すべて抽象画の作品を14点展示してます。私は版画、彫刻そして、具象画の作品の発表はしましたが、この個展で初めて今まで少しずつ描き溜めてきた抽象画の作品を公開します。
