Received a Prize. ﾚｻﾞｰｽﾄｯｷﾝｸﾞ･ﾘｼﾞｪﾝ賞を受賞

I received "Leatherstocking Region FCU Prize" from 18th Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition "Essential Art", Cooperstown Art Association. If you go to near Cooperstown, New York, please stop by and see my new etching and aquatint " A Red thread". Information I'd had the idea one year ago. It took to create this print for over four months.
ニューヨークのアップスティートのクーパーズタウンでエッセンシャル･アート展, 第18回定期公募展に初めて応募、入賞そして、レザーストッキング･リジェンFUC賞を受賞。レザーストッキング？聞きなれない言葉で、古語みたいで、何やら高級なめし皮ブーツのことらしです。詳しく意味を知りたいと思ってます。作品のアイデアは1年前からで、製作に約4ヶ月以上掛かった作品なので、受賞は嬉しいです。

Trefoil Arch. セントラルパークの橋

I finished drawing and printed this lithograph. I exhibit it in my solo show at Brooklyn Public Library. Trefoil Arch is one of my favorite bridges in Central Park.

The opening reception. 個展のレセプション

I had an opening reception for my solo exhibition on March 31st. It was nice one. I appreciated many people came. Thank you so much!
There are 11 prints and 9 paintings in my show.

私の個展（版画11点とペインティング9点を展示。）のオープニング･レセプションを3月31日に行いました。沢山の人に来て頂いてとっても感謝してます。

In The Library. 図書館に・・・

I delivered and hung my artworks at the Broolklyn Public Library on Saturday. In totally there are twenty prints and paintings. Also I displayed the working process of "The Red Thread" in a showcase there. I think it looks very nice. The picture is a sign of my exhibition in the Library.
土曜日に搬入が終わりました。版画とペインティング合計20点を壁に掛けて来ました。そして、図書館の中にあるショーケースにエッチングの"赤い糸"の製作工程を展示しました。ライブラリーの館長が今まで一番素晴らしい展示会になると大喜びでした。
写真は、図書館に入ってすぐに私の展示会のサインとショーケースです。

My solo exhibition, 個展のお知らせ

I'm going have a solo exhibition at Brooklyn Public Library, Gravesend Branch. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday March 31 from 6pm to 8 pm. The picture on the invitation card is my first lithograph which is titled "Central Park". I developed the print from a photograph I took about 15 years ago.
3月31日よりブルックリン市立図書館のグラビセント･ブランチにて私の個展が開催されます。オープニングレセプションは3月31日6時より。版画(エッチング、リトグラフ)抽象画を展示する予定です。
私が版画を始めて最初の作品"セントラル･パークが、招待状に使われました。この作品は、約15年前にニューヨークに来た当初、英語学校に通っていた時撮った写真を元に製作しました。
その時はアーティストになるなんて全く考えていなかったし、その写真を使ってリトグラフの製作をするなんて、思わなかったし、アートのとは関係ない世界にいました。不思議ですよね。今こうやって、アメリカで初個展をNYで開催する事になって...。個展は、約4年前に東京の銀座煉瓦画廊で、企画してもらって以来となります。

Almost finish drawing. 時間が掛かってます。

It's taking time to draw very carefully on the plate because one can't use an eraser once the drawing has been done on the plate with litho pencil. I can't wait to see the final print-out.
作品はすごく時間が掛かってドローイングしてます。リトグラフは間違えたからといって消しゴムを使って消したり出来ないのです。
特にアルミ板を使ってますから一度書いたら訂正困難なのです。だから慎重に、気をつけて描いてます。もうすぐ描き終わる予定です。刷るまで何があるかわかりませんが(ちょっと怖い～)、刷るのが待ちどうしいです。

Working on a new project. 新作

I started working on a new lithograph. A photo is a drawing of Central Park on an aluminum lithograph plate.
I had an accident so that I couldn't do anything for two weeks. After taking it easy a little while, I had to do a lot of things. I didn't have time to post anythig on my blog.
先月はスタジオでパイプにつまずいて身体を強く打って2週間程何も出来なかったんです。少し良くなったら溜まっていた沢山の事を一つずつ終わらせるのに忙しく、やっと新しいリトグラフの作品（セントラルパークの風景）の製作を始めました。

Shadow of the Thread、糸の影

I etched the shadow of the thread by soft ground. While etching the plate, some parts on the top left and around the scissors which should be white, were also accidentally etched. And I was shocked to find it when I printed it out. I fixed them by varnishing the plate today. My hands are still in pain. In the picture of the two images I tried the different colors.
ソフトグランドで糸の影を板に腐食させました。仮刷りしてみたら腐食して欲しく無いとこ、例えばハサミの周りの光が当たっている所まで黒くなっていて、ショック！その修正、銅版の凹凸をつぶしていく作業を今日一日やって、手が痛いです。写真は赤い糸の色と全体の色を違うインクを使って刷ってみました。クリックすると拡大写真が見れます。

This is a third stage of the picture. I made another plate for a thread to add on the print. So I have two plates for one image. I was working on the scissors' shadow, it's very subtle, perhaps too subtle to make out. And I'm going to change the color of the thread which must be a deeper red.
I hope I'll finish working on the print before the end of the month.
先週から引き続きこの作品の製作をしてます。今週、もう一枚赤い糸用の板を製作し,2枚の板を重ね刷りしてみました。そして、テーブルの上のハサミの影を少しソフトにしたんですが、ほとんど違いが分からないかもしれませんね。赤い糸はもっと深みがある赤にしようと思ってます。今月中に出来上がるといいなと思っているんですが、版画は絵画や彫刻と違って思うようにならないので、どうでしょう。

This picture is a second stage of a next print. I like the bobbin and its shadow but the entire image needs more aquatint. I think I'll work on it more.

今製作している作品で、エッチングの後、アクアチントで、仮刷りしてみました。もう一度アクアチントするか、エッチングするかして、作り上げていこうと思ってます。

Lucky Year... 今年は...

I received the Hannibal DeBellis & Richman Sculpture Award - 125th Annual Members' Exhibition, Salmagundi Club last week. The sculpture "Aran" sat on the TV cabinet a long time. I've not submitted it to any exhibitions. I'm honored to receive this award, and I think Aran must be proud as well.
今年は私にとって本当にいい年で、先日第125回サルマガンディ クラブ メンバーズ展でﾊｰﾆﾊﾞﾙ ﾃﾞｭﾍﾞﾙ& ﾘｯﾁﾏﾝ ｽｶﾙﾌﾟﾁｬ 賞を受賞しました。
アランの彫刻はずっとテレビキャビネットの上に置いていて、どこの展示会にも出展していなかったんです。9月にアランの彫刻を本人に贈呈したブログを書いた時、次のメンバーズ展に出展する事を決めていました。今回の受賞は、私にとってもとても光栄な事ですが、きっとアランも嬉しく思ってくれると思います。

Won the Medal of Honor. 彫刻部門で一位のメダルオブオーナーを受賞！

The photos are when I was receiving the CLWAC Medal of Honor from 112th Annual Juried Exhibition Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club at National Arts Club in October 15th and my Sculpture and myself. I was so happy to receive it.
The sculpture "Sorina" presents a female character whose tranquil, contemplative gaze is intended to suggests wisdom and inner strength.

I've been so busy since last month because I've had totally five group shows for two months that's why I could post anything.　

彫刻部門第一位のCLWACﾒﾀﾞﾙ ｵﾌﾞ ｵｰﾅｰを第112回ｷｬｻﾘﾝ ﾛｰﾘﾗｰﾄﾞ ｳｫﾙﾌ ｱｰﾄ ｸﾗﾌﾞ定期公募展にて受賞し作品ソリーナと受賞式の写真です。ソリーナは私が架空の女性をイメージして製作した作品です。

先月そして今月と忙しくてブログが書けませんでした。

ｸﾞﾙｰﾌﾟ 展がこの2ヶ月で5つもあり大変でした。１週間程リラックス出来るかなと思ってます。これから年末にかけてまた忙しくなります。もう10月末､約2ヶ月で今年も終わりですね。何だか時間の経つのが本当に早くて､怖いぐらいです。

The costume ball. 舞踏会

I attended the Grand Paradise Lost Costume Ball and the opening reception celebrating John Milton's 400th birthday at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, September 27th. There was dance performances, live music with swing band and singer, and more. I really enjoyed everything as I've never attended this kind of the ball. I'm showing some pictures here. ジョンミルトン生誕400年記念展（叙事詩の大作『失楽園』に関する作品展示会）が9月27日から始まりました。私は彫刻、デイモンを出展しています。オープニングレセプショウンのコスチュームボール(舞踏会)が8時からありました。こんなオープニングは初めて！一階では飲んで食べて、賑やかなバンドがバーカウンターに乗って演奏があり、二階展示会場ではダンスパフォーマスがあり三階ではスングバンドの演奏でシンガーが歌って、沢山の人が踊ったりと本当に楽しい賑やかなレセプションでした。写真はその時の様子です。この展覧会は11月2日まで開催。展示会の詳細

Received an Award! ゴールドブラシ賞を受賞!

I had the reception and the award ceremony of Audubon Artists 66th Annual Juried Exhibition in September 21. I received The Jack Richeson Co. & Gold Brush Award. My painting was accepted and won the Award. I'm so happy to receive it. Here are the pictures of the reception at Salmagundi Club. It's titled Dancing Crane, the pink abstract painting in the upper picture.

Scissors & Bobbin

I've been working on this etching since July 1st. Finally I'm printing out a limited edition now. I printed about 18 prints so far but I'm not satisfied with some of them. Printing by hand is not like a copy machine. It's difficult to make the same print every time. So I'll make more prints.
7月から始めたこのエッチングやっと本刷りに入りました。今のとこ18枚程刷ったんですが、満足出来るプリントは少なくて、コピー機の様に同じに毎回刷れなくて、苦難してます。15枚か20枚のエディションを作りたいと考えているので、もう少し頑張らないと。

Three Musketeers?(三銃士?)

Aran is my friend of mine. His appearance is like Three Musketeers. I wanted to make his sculpture. So I asked him to sit for me about four years ago. At that time, I promised him create a copy. I made the busts with two different patina. A dark one is for him. Finally he picked it up last night. He changed his hair style but it's the same mustache. I took a souvenir picture for him with his busts.

三銃士の様な風貌の友人のアランに彼の彫刻を作らせてくれと頼んだのが､4年前。その時彼にも同じ彫刻を作って上げると約束した。昨夜やっと彼が彫刻を受け取りに来てくれた。ﾍｱｰｽﾀｲﾙを変えていたけど相変わらず髭は凛々しかった。ブロンズ色の方を彼に。そして、2つの彫刻とアランとで記念写真を。

The Reception of the Black & White Exhibition

I had a reception of the Annual Black and White Exhibition at Salmgundi Club last Thursday. I had two lithographs that were accepted.
I was glad to hear that people love "Kissing The Universe" in the gallery. Because it's unusual and fun to see what they said.
I've been busy dropping off and picking up my artworks at the galleries recently. That's why I couldn't post anything.

先週から今週に掛けて搬入搬出で忙しくブログを書く時間がありませんでした。写真は先週木曜日にあったブラック＆ホワイト展のレセプションの時のものです｡アインスタインのリトグラフが沢山の人に好評でした。直接作品に対しての生の声を聞けて嬉しかったです。

Back to work...

I took a rest and continued painting this piece today. There is some white cloth behind lemon but I think it doesn't need it.
しばらく休みを取ってまた製作を開始。レモンの後方に白い布を置いているんですが、今の時点ではそれを省いてもいいかと思っているんです。

Another still life painting

I didn't finish the painting that is Wedgwood teacup's one. I want to take a rest for my eyes. And I'll continue to paint it soon. I was planning not to do anything today but I started painting a new still life painting. I made a simple set up in this time. I really need take a break.
ウェッジウッドのティーカップの油彩は、まだ描き終わってませんが、少し目を休めたいと思って、今日は休日にするつもりが、新しい絵を描き始めました。今回はシンプルな静物画にしました。

Almost finish...

I'm always paint with natural light. I've started painting from late afternoon to evening for a few days. It was getting dark outside so that the painting became darker.
I'm going to work on it earlier tomorrow.
いつも自然光で絵を描いているんですが、この数日、絵を描き始めるのが遅く夕方まで描き続けているので、だんだんペインティングが全体的に暗くなってしまった。明日は早目に描き始めよう。

Title: Fruit with Blue Silk Fabric

This painting is a still life arrangement featuring fruit (an orange, a lemon, red grapes, green grapes)and red wine. The tablecloth in the painting was originally an antique kimono belt, which is called "obi" in Japanese. I came across this obi at an antique store in Japan and the design of the pattern caught my eye.
I saw the pattern reflecting in the silver bowl, it was so beautiful. That's why I wanted to paint it.
この作品はフルーツを入れたシルバーのボールに映ったブルーの着物の帯の柄がとても綺麗だったので描きました。帯は日本のアンティーク着物屋で見つけたものです。

I couldn't start working earlier but I painted a lot today.
今日は始めた時間が遅かったけどずい分描けたと思う。

Started painting...

I got some fruit in this morning and set up still life since then. I started painting around two o'clock. It takes time to set up for decided composition and color.
I haven't been painting for almost ten months. I'm a kind of miss it.
I'm continuing working on it tomorrow too.
So I'm going to post new picture of the painting.
朝フルーツを買いに行って、それから静物画のセットが決めるまで可なり時間が掛かり午後2時頃やっと描き始めました。明日も続けて描くので明日またブログに写真を載せられると思います。

Before printing out Albert Einstein...

I spent a few nights researching Einstein's quotes. He left a lot of funny and good ones. There is a limited space to write the quotes on the plate. I picked some of them and wrote backwards. It's difficult to choose them but I enjoyed doing it.
I don't know when it's printing out, if it's possible to read the words.
アインスタインが残した名言を２晩かけて調べて、選んだ言葉をドローイングの周りに書く事にした。限られたスペ-スにどの言葉を入れるか選ぶのは結構大変だった、私の気に入った名言も余白に書き込むには、短いとか長すぎるとか、何度も読んで選んで楽しかった。彼は、天才だけじゃなくて本当に愉快な人物だったみたいで、大ファンになった。
印刷するとイメージがすべて逆になるので言葉もすべて逆向きに書いたんだけど、印刷した時上手く読めるといいなあ。

Albert Einstein

I'm still working on the etching plate. Fixing it and printing out these process are over and over again. It takes time to finish fixing and making editions. In the meantime, I started drawing on Einstein's portrait the lithograph plate.

エッチングの銅板を直しているところですが、直して､刷ってみて､また板を修正しての繰り返しで、刷り終えるまで時間が掛かるので、リトグラフを始めました。アインスタインのドローイングをリトプレートに描き始めたところです。

The test print

Well...the dark tone and the shadow of the scissors look okay but I'm not satisfy with the gradation on the table. I'm going to fix on the plate.
この写真は試し刷りです。ハサミの影はいいけど、画面上の部分のグラディーションが強すぎるので、銅版を修正しないと...。

The second stage

This is the plate I drew for making gradation. I took a photo before soaking it into acid tank. The dark part of drawing is not going to bite. It reverses the image and tones. I can post some test print soon...
銅版にドローイングして腐食をする前の状態です。イメージと濃淡がプリントした時に逆になります。

finished painting!

It's different from the last posted picture, isn't it. The pink tent seems like one from a circus, and I think it makes the painting exciting and fun.

Now, the title is "l'isle enchante".

サーカスのようなピンクテントがこの絵を楽しいものにしてくれているでしょう？最終的にタイトルは、フランス語で“魅力する島”にしました。

The first stage

The idea came in May. You can see the photos on the blog May 19th.
I started this etching on July 1st.
The first week, I decided composition, a size of image and how to make a texture of the table etc...
The second week, I prepared a copper plate and etched on it.
So far, I have one print for the etching. Now, I've been drawing on the plate for making gradation with aquatint. It takes time to do this process.
Hope I can post the next stage soon.
このエッチングは7月1日から始めたんですが､沢山の工程で今だ完成してません。
第一週目は作品の構成､サイズ､テーブルをどんなテキスチャーにするかなどを決めて｡
第二週目は, 銅版の用意そして最初のエッチングをしました。今現在アクアテントで濃淡を出しているとこです。近い内に次の工程の写真を載せられると思います。

Old drawing

I thought I didn't save many pictures of my drawings but I found this drawing I drew about eight years ago I guess.

I tried blind contour drawing for the outline and then making shadows on it.

ほとんどドローイングは保存していなくてこれは約8年前の残っていました。アウトラインを手元を見ずに描いていく手法で、その後、影などは用紙を見ながら付け加えました。
